HelmsleyNic Hello all, I'm in the early stages of considering a career move from higher education to retrain as a primary or secondary teacher. As you can tell, I've not quite worked out where my abilities lie and so would like to gain experience of the working environment of both primary ideally KS2 and secondary up to KS5 classrooms.
I've decided upon a handful of local schools to approach. I'm very flexible with time. I understand the pressures of time, especially at this stage of the academic year, so I'm thinking that being polite but to-the-point will be most welcome?
Something along the lines of who I am, summarise what I currently do, why I'd like to gain experience, and my availability?
Should I subtly offer to 'assist' with anything, or will this make me seem a little desperate?! I want to make sure my experience is valuable to both myself and the school. Also, I'm considering sending hard copies of the letter so it's less likely to get buried in the inbox - is this a good idea, or a bit silly and old-fashioned?!
